Great Lakes Lacquer - Water Colors Collection

Woah! Two posts in one day, that's a first for this new blog baby of mine. I wanted to get this up for you guys so that those of you going to Polish Con this weekend can preview these! This is the newest collection from Michigan's very own Great Lakes Lacquer. I'm so excited to be sharing GLL on this new platform! I have been a fan of and swatcher for Mariah since her very first collection and it's been just amazing watching her business improve, grow, and become an icon in the indie polish world over the last three years.

Matte and glossy macros

Mariah's new collection, Water Colors, was inspired in part by the color version of her logo seen here:
I can totally see the logo inspiration in the polishes! Water Colors was also created to celebrate the third anniversary of Great Lakes Lacquer. I feel honored to have been a part of it since the beginning! Let's get on with the swatches, shall we?

Bottom Shoals
A bright aqua crelly filled with glimmering, shifting shimmer and flake that shifts from copper red to gold to green and a bit of scattered holographic pigment; two coats plus topcoat

Sun Dappled
A buttery yellow crelly filled with coppery red shifting shimmer, flake that mirrors the same shift and finished with a slight scattered holographic; three thin coats plus topcoat

Shell Reflection
An orange based filled with glowing shimmer shifting through blue to pink to purple, highlighted with shifting flake that hits on pink, purple and gold, finished with a slight scattered holographic; two coats plus topcoat
*to me this read as more of a pink/salmon leaning orange, due to the gorgeous shimmer and shift*

Fading Day
A bright, pink leaning purple filled with copious amounts of shimmer hat shifts from copper red to gold to green with a bit of scattered holographic as well; two coats plus topcoat

A blue leaning periwinkle jelly set alight with blue to lavender shifting shimmer, electric blue micro flake, and glowing with aqua to green to purple shifting iridescent flake, finished with a touch of scattered holographic; three coats plus topcoat

All the deets:

Uhh Melissa, what in the world is a polish fairy?!

A polish fairy is someone who is going to Polish Con that you make arrangements with to buy stuff for you. Typically you would PayPal them the money in advance, but it's really between the two parties involved how payment will work. There is a thread for fairy hunting in the Polish Con Facebook group!

Final Thoughts:
This collection is lovely. Some of the colors are pretty sheer, so they will require three coats on longer nails. They are all unique to my large collection, and the bottles look really pretty sitting together on my desk, haha. Like I said above, I've been a fan of Mariah's polish since the beginning and she just keeps getting better and better. I can't wait to see what the next three years have in store for GLL!

Bonus Feature:
I thought I'd try something new and take brush macros for this collection. I have never done pictures like this before, but was playing around with the polishes and loved how they looked with the bristles sort of splayed out... so yeah, the brush macro bonus feature was born! Enjoy :)

  1. These are all SO pretty and I love that she did a collection from her logo!
p.s. I love the brush macros too!

    1. Stacy, thank you so much for always commenting on my blog! It means a lot to me!! Thanks for the feedback on the brush macros, I'm going to try to remember to do them for all new collections!
